De Tomaso Guará Coupé
Description
De TOMASO 894 Guará Coupé
This vehicle has the serial number 16 of 21 coupes.
Only 21 examples of the De TOMASO Guará Coupé were actually produced and of these only 8 cars left the factory in Modena with the reliable and very expensive BMW V8 engine from the BMW 840i. For cost reasons, the remaining 13 examples were fitted with the Ford Mustang V8 engine, which was about 200 kg heavier and also considerably more sluggish.
The Guarà model series was the last big production from the company De TOMASO and it was unfortunately also the last series which was sold under its own name. The Guarà was presented to the public at the Geneva Motor Show in 1993.
The De TOMASO Guará was designed as a high-performance sports car with mid-engine drive and was a further development of the 1991 Maserati Barchetta, which was designed purely for competition purposes. For this reason, many racing influences can be found in the Guarà. Starting with the identical Maserati aluminum tubular frame as well as the (as used in Formula 1) internal spring-damper elements and the plastic outer skin reinforced with glass and aramid fibers. The kerb weight of this vehicle is just 1200 kg. The engine is located directly behind the seats and the large air intakes on the vehicle flanks provide the necessary circulation.
This Guará Coupé was ordered on 17.03.1998 at the official De TOMASO, Lamborghini and Maserati dealer in Bolzano (Italy) and registered on 26.03.1998 to the prominent businessman Enzo Nespoli, born on 03.03.1941 in Milan.
The Guará was parked in a converted horse stable on his Milan estate and surrounded by a Ferrari F40, a Pagani Zonda and many classic cars. In 2012, a hotelier from Rheinland-Pfalz, Germany, bought the vehicle, and it remains in his possession to this day.
A real collector’s item, which has only 1,668 km on the speedometer, has not been repainted and is even still on the Michelin tires mounted at the factory in 1998. All vehicle windows are still the original SWISSLAMEX windows and contain the De TOMASO logo.
